§ MR. THOMSON HANKEYsaid, he would beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, At what time can a weekly tenant of a house, for which the rate is compounded, deduct from his landlord the amount he may have been called on to pay 615 for additional rating on claiming to be separately assessed in order to claim his vote; and, supposing the amount of rate so paid exceeds the amount of rent due, and the landlord discharges his weekly tenant, how can the said tenant recover the amount of additional rate he has paid?
§ THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUERreplied, that the case supposed was one which was not very likely to occur; but since the notice of the hon. Member he had referred the matter to the proper authorities, and would communicate to the hon. Member, or inform the House upon the subject, when he received the information required.
