§ LORD JOHN MANNERSmoved for leave to introduce a Bill to make further provision for the enlargement of the National Gallery. He said, that under the arrangement sanctioned by Parliament last year, the right hon. Gentleman the Member for Hertford (Mr. Cowper) hoped he should be able to purchase by private contract the property to which this measure referred—namely, Archbishop Tenison's school and the parochial schools of St. Martin. Difficulties, however, had arisen, and it was necessary to pass the Bill awarding compensation to the owners, which he now moved for leave to introduce.
