§ MR. HADFIELDasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether there was any intention on the part of the Government to introduce an Indemnity Bill this year? The House had been given to understand last year that the Indemnity Bill then introduced would be the last that was required, and he wished to know whether any steps had been taken to pre- 87 vent the recurrence of the necessity for introducing such a Bill during the present Session?
§ MR. GATHORNE HARDYsaid, the legal Advisers of the Home Office had told him that it was necessary to have an Indemnity Bill again this Session, with a view to the protection of a limited number of persons holding civil and military offices or in the Queen's household, who might be liable to penalties under the Act Geo. III.
