HC Deb 17 July 1866 vol 184 cc941-2
MR. GRENFELL

said, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, If there is any truth in the statement made in the Berlin Borsen Zeitung, to the effect that "the English Cabinet have given it to be understood that England will not allow any part of Hanover to be handed over to Prussia, it being the interest of Great Britain to see the integrity of Hanover maintained on account of certain eventual hereditary claims?"

LORD STANLEY

Sir, I have not seen the statement to which the hon. Member's Question refers; but wherever that statement has appeared, or upon whatever supposed authority it has been made, I beg to assure the House that it is absolutely without foundation.
