HC Deb 13 February 1866 vol 181 cc448-9
SIR ROBERT PEEL

asked, Whether it is the intention of Her Majesty's Government to introduce, during the present Session, a measure for the purpose of abating nuisances arising from the smoke of chimneys in towns and country districts in the vicinity of towns similar to the Bill passed in 1853 for the Metropolis?

SIR GEORGE GREY

replied, that the Act which applied to the metropolis had had a most beneficial effect, and it was desirable to extend it to the whole country. No Bill had been at present prepared with that object, but he felt the importance of the subject. He hoped it might be possible to extend the provisions of that Act.
