HC Deb 26 April 1866 vol 182 cc2075-6
MR. WHITESIDE

said, he rose to ask the Chief Secretary for Ireland, Whether, having regard to the amount of business in the Landed Estates Court (Ireland), it is intended to fill the place of third Judge, now vacant in that Court by the death of the late Judge Hargrave?

MR. CHICHESTER FORTESCUE

said, in reply, that the Government, after consulting the Law Officers of the Crown, had come to the decision that the vacancy should not be filled up; and his right hon. and learned Friend the Attorney General for Ireland thought it his duty, two months ago, to communicate his opinion that, in the event of a vacancy occurring, it should not be filled up.
