HC Deb 21 June 1864 vol 176 cc35-6
SIR JOHN PAKINGTON

said, he wished to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty, Whether it is the intention of Her Majesty's Government to advise the appointment of a Royal Commission to consider the pay and allowances of Officers of the Royal Navy?

LORD CLARENCE PAGET,

in reply, said, it had not been usual to appoint a Royal Commission to inquire into the pay and allowances of the Navy as distinguished from other branches of Her Majesty's Service, and he was not aware of any intention to establish a novel precedent.
