HC Deb 19 February 1864 vol 173 c793
Mr. G. S. LEFEYRE

said, he wished to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether it is true that a British Ship, the Martaban, has been captured by the Alabama, and burnt by order of its captain; and, if so, what steps the Government are taking to obtain reparation, and to prevent the repetition of such outrages?

MR. LAYARD

said, in reply, that as yet no information had been received by Her Majesty's Government; the only information they had on the subject was obtained from the public newspapers.
