HC Deb 29 May 1863 vol 171 cc1-2
SIR DE LACY EVANS

said, he wished to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, What the Postmaster General intends to do with the nine residences attached to the District Post Offices situate at High Holborn, Vere Street, Buckingham Gate, Camden Town, Lambeth, Borough, Islington, Bethnal Green, and Commercial Road, which have been unoccupied for periods varying from one to five years?

MR. PEEL

said, in reply, that the residences were intended to be occupied by the principal officers of the Post Office in charge of the district offices. The reason why they had not been occupied yet was, that the permanent appointments had not been made. It had been thought desirable that the officers in charge should be removed from one district to another, with a view of their becoming acquainted with each district. When the permanent appointments were made, the residences would be occupied by the several officers.
