Gentleman the Member for the King's County, Whether he would be willing to postpone his motion for throwing open to competition the junior appointments of the Civil Service till a later period of the Session? The House was not yet in possession of the report for last year of the Civil Service Commissioners; and the postponement would like wise be convenient to several hon. Members.
§ MR. HENNESSYsaid, he rose to express his willingness to postpone his motion, not only for the reasons stated by the hon. Gentleman, but because the Chancellor of the Exchequer, whom he understood to be a supporter of his motion, could 275 not be present on the day when he had intended that it should come on.
