said, he wished to ask the First Commissioner of Works, Whether he intends to take any steps for the purification of the Thames, consequent upon the Report of Mr. Gurney?

SIR BENJAMIN HALL

said, that by the Act of 1855 the drainage of the Thames was placed under the control of the Metropolitan Board of Works, and, of course, he could not say what that body might do.
