§ MAJOR LAYARDwished to inquire of the hon. Gentleman the Secretary at War whether it were the intention of the Government to increase the pension of the private soldier?
§ MR. F. MAULEsaid, it had been stated by his noble Friend in another place that it was the intention of Her Majesty's Government to revise the warrant regulating the amount of pensions, and to increase the minimum pension to the sum of 8d. a day. In addition to this the soldier would also carry with him as pension the good-conduct pay which he had earned during his 21 years' service.
