HC Deb 14 March 1842 vol 61 c512
An hon. Member

begged to inquire whether it was the intention of Government to bring in a mea sure with reference to the rural police?

Sir James Graham

said, that it was not the intention of Government to introduce any measure to alter, vary, or put an end to, the system of rural police. It was his intention, however, to bring in a bill for the better regulation of parish constables, giving to the rate-payers in vestry assembled more power in their appointment.
