HC Deb 25 February 1839 vol 45 c893

Mr. Wallace moved the second reading of the Salmon Fishery (Scotland) Bill.

Mr. Chalmers

considering the Bill totally uncalled for, would move, as an amendment, that it be read a second time that day six months.

Mr. Wallace

said, that the bill had been introduced with a view of improving the fisheries generally throughout Scotland; he believed it would be productive of great good, and that it met with the sanction of the whole country; under such circumstances he must divide the House upon the bill.

The House divided on the original question.— Ayes 29—Noes 55.—Majority 26.
