Definition

• From 1 April 2009 the County Council will be abolished and replaced by a new unitary authority which will also be called Northumberland County Council. Berwick-upon Tweed, Blyth Valley and Castle Morpeth Borough Councils and Alnwick, Tynedale and Wansbeck District Councils will also be abolished and replaced by the unitary council.
