• An independent and decentralised prosecution office of the European Union, with the competence to investigate, prosecute and bring to judgment crimes against the EU budget, such as fraud, corruption or serious cross-border VAT fraud. Agreed 8 June 2017, established 20 November 2017 under regulation 2017/1939, and expected to take up functions from national authorities from 2020.
