• Established under the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000. Initially known as Community Punishment and Rehabilitation Service (see WPQ 341 c133-5W, 14.12.99). New name announced 13.03.2000 - OPQ 356 c6. Announcement that to merge with the Prison Service to become National Offender Management Service in June 2004 - CH 416 c171, 06.01.04. Replaced by 42 local probation trusts in April 2010. Revived in 2013 to re-launch in April 2014 with the abolition of the local probation trusts.
