- Adopted by the EU Finance ministers on 9 May 2010; a regulation establishing a European financial stabilisation mechanism with a total volume of up to 500 billion euros. Member states in difficulties caused by exceptional circumstances beyond their control may ask for financial assistance from the mechanism. These circumstances could be a serious deterioration in the international economic and financial environment.
