Definition

• From December 2003 the Harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) is renamed Consumer prices index for UK statistics use and replaces the Retail prices index as the main UK domestic measure of inflation for macroeconomic purposes. The HICP continues to be developed by Eurostat under EC regulation. Announced - HC Deb 10 December 2003 vol 415 c1062.
