Definition
- Scheme which enables buyers to borrow 20% of home costs from Government funds for a period of 5 years, if they put down a 5% deposit and obtain a 75% mortgage. Also used for an ISA scheme which contributes an additional 25% to the sum saved by first-time buyers taking out a Help to but ISA through participating banks and building societies.
History note
- Added as result of PQ meeting discussion, 3/6/2015 (risk of confusion with Right to buy which had just been revived.) Additional SN added 12/5/2016 as a result of the Help to buy ISA becoming available.
