Definition
- System established under Part I of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (known as 'the Act') to control pollution from industry. It applies to the most potentially polluting or technologically complex processes in England and Wales and is enforced by the Environment Agency. A parallel but separate system of IPC is used in Scotland and enforced by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, SEPA. IPC is concerned with the release of polluting substances to air, land and water.
