- Established on 1 April 2004 and its purpose is to promote continuous improvement in the quality and safety of patient care within NHS Wales. Was created when the Commission for Health Improvement was abolished. English equivalent is Healthcare Commission, set up at the same time under the Health and Social Care (Community Health and Standards) Act 2003, and both bodies have a statutory duty to cooperate.
