Definition

• Set up 1 April 2005 under Courts Act 2003 as merger of Court Service and 42 independent local magistrates' courts committees into single executive agency responsible for administration of magistrates courts and higher courts. Shadow service established in 2004 - CH 422 c4WS, 08.06.04. Merged with the Tribunals Service to form HM Courts and Tribunals Service on 1 April 2011.
