1960 — 2nd November 62 Chairmen of standing committees

The chairman of each standing committee shall be appointed by Mr. Speaker from a Chairmen's Panel consisting of the Chairman of Ways and Means, the Deputy Chairman, and the Members appointed by Mr. Speaker in pursuance of paragraph (4) of Standing Order No. 96 (Deputy Speaker and chairmen) to act as temporary chairmen of committees of the whole House.

Mr. Speaker may change the chairman so appointed from time to time.

The Chairmen's Panel, of whom three shall be a quorum, shall have power to consider matters of procedure relating to standing committees and to report their opinion thereupon to the House from time to time.

Any member of a standing committee may, at the request of the chairman of the committee, act as chairman for not more than a quarter of an hour: Provided that paragraph (5) of Standing Order No. 57 (Standing committees (constitution and powers)) shall not apply to proceedings in a standing committee while such member is in the chair.

1967 — 12th December 65 Chairmen of standing committees

The chairman of each standing committee shall be appointed by Mr. Speaker from a Chairmen's Panel consisting of the Chairman of Ways and Means, the Deputy Chairman, and the Members appointed by Mr. Speaker in pursuance of paragraph (4) of Standing Order No. 101 (Deputy Speaker and chairmen) to act as temporary chairmen of committees of the whole House.

1971 — 21st January 65 Chairmen of standing committees

The chairman or chairmen of each standing committee shall be appointed by Mr. Speaker from a Chairmen's Panel consisting of the Chairman of Ways and Means, the Deputy Chairman, and the Members appointed by Mr. Speaker in pursuance of paragraph (4) of Standing Order No. 101 (Deputy Speaker and chairmen) to act as temporary chairmen of committees of the whole House.

When more than one chairman is appointed to a standing committee pursuant to paragraph (1) of this order, any of the chairmen so appointed may exercise the powers conferred by paragraph (5) of Standing Order No. 59 (Standing committees (constitution and powers)).
