1960 — 30th May 7 Time for taking private business

(1) No private business which has been opposed shall be set down for or deferred to a Friday sitting

(2) No private business shall be considered after a quarter to three of the clock upon Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and any business not reached shall stand over to the next sitting.

(3) Any private business entered upon and not disposed of by the time referred to in paragraph (2) of this order shall be deferred until such time as the Chairman of Ways and Means may determine.

(4) Private business, if so directed by the Chairman of Ways and Means, shall be taken at seven of the clock on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, or as soon thereafter as any motion for the adjournment of the House standing over has been disposed of, provided that such business shall be distributed as near as may be proportionately between the sittings on which government business has precedence and the other sittings and, where any opposed private business is so directed by the Chairman of Ways and Means to be taken, the direction shall be taken to include the setting down of any motion contingent, directly or otherwise, thereon.

(5) No opposed private business other than that under consideration shall be taken after nine of the clock.

(1) No opposed private business shall be set down for the sittings on Friday, or for the evening sittings on Wednesday between Easter and Whitsuntide.

(2) All private business which is set down for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, and is not disposed of by fifteen minutes after two of the clock shall, without question put, be postponed until such time as the chairman of ways and means may determine.

(3) Provided that such private business shall always be taken at the beginning of an evening sitting after any motion for the adjournment of the house standing over from an afternoon sitting has been disposed of, and that such postponed business shall be distributed as near as may be proportionately between the sittings on which government business has precedence and the other sittings.

(4) At an evening sitting at which government business has not precedence, no opposed private business other than that then under consideration shall be taken after a quarter-past ten of the clock.

(5) Unopposed private business shall have precedence of opposed private business.
