Mr. Barnes: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he received recommendations from the City of London police tosite video cameras at Stranraer, Holyhead and Fishguard, as part of security operations to counter the Provisional IRA; and whatplans he has to commission video cameras at these points.[27240]Mr. Howard: [holding answer 1 May 1996]: Advice on the introduction of closed circuit television cameras at ports across the countryhas been provided by the Association of Chief Police Officers, not the city of London police. Funding and guidance on theinstallation of CCTV has been provided by the ACPO advisory group since June 1994, and cameras were operational at Stranraer,Holyhead and Fishguard by March 1995. |
