<p>The Department for Education was first contacted about problems at the school in July 2013. The Department began a wide ranging investigation and, as a result, we requested Ofsted to bring forward its planned inspection. This took place on 1 and 2 October. Department for Education (DfE) officials attended the Ofsted feedback meeting on the evening of 2 October and notified Ministers on 3 October that the school had failed on all aspects of the inspection.</p><p>Lord Nash wrote to the Chair of the Al-Madinah Trust on 8 October setting out a series of requirements that the Trust must meet or risk termination of its funding agreement. The Trust made its final response to Lord Nash on 1 November and we are now giving careful consideration to the evidence the Trust has provided. The Al-Madinah school notified Department officials of the resignation of the former principal on 6 August 2013, during the school holidays. The Trust confirmed to Department officials on 18 September that it had appointed an interim principal.</p> |
