<p>The Waste Minimisation Act 1998 gave powers to waste collection or disposal authorities to take steps to minimise the generation of controlled waste in their areas.</p><p> </p><p>The Government does not keep records of the number of local authorities with waste minimisation strategies. However, we would encourage local authorities to follow the waste hierarchy when planning delivery of their waste management arrangements.
