<p>The draft National Policy Statement on renewable energy infrastructure (EN-3) was consulted on between November 2010 and January 2011. The final National Policy Statement (NPS) was approved by Parliament on 18 July 2011 and designated by the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change on 19 July 2011. It sets out how Government policy should be applied by decision-makers when considering applications for Development Consent Orders for major energy infrastructure. The NPS sets out a number of</p><p><?notus-xml column=439?></p><p>potential effects of renewable energy infrastructure that should be considered and indicates possible mitigation to remove or minimise significant adverse impacts.</p><p>Renewable energy projects will only be built where the impacts are, or can be made, acceptable. In relation to biomass sustainability, the Government will be introducing mandatory requirements through the Renewables Obligation and the Renewable Heat Incentive.</p>
