I, along with the former Minister for the Disabled, my hon. Friend the Member for Wirral West (Esther McVey), wrote in May this year, to over 80 FTSE companies with public facing customer service functions to highlight the need for them to have accessible contact strategies that use a mix of email, SMS, text, and video relay services (VRS) to facilitate engagement with their disabled customers.

So far BT, BskyB, Lloyds TSB, Halifax, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Barclays Bank plc have all launched VRS schemes for their customers at the minimal cost of £10,000 to £20,000 each with the Post Office soon to launch a scheme for their customers as well.

I will continue to press for more action in this area.
|
