<p>The UK Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) puts the market at the heart of the Government’s net zero strategy. Last year’s <a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1067125/developing-the-uk-ets-english.pdf" target="_blank">Developing the UK ETS</a> consultation considered improvements to the scheme, including aligning the cap to net zero and expansion to new economic sectors. The ETS Authority will publish a response in due course. In the <a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1147457/powering-up-britain-net-zero-growth-plan.pdf" target="_blank">Net Zero Growth Plan</a>, the Government also accepted the <a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1128689/mission-zero-independent-review.pdf" target="_blank">Independent Review of Net Zero</a> recommendation that it set out a long-term pathway for the ETS, including its intention to continue the scheme beyond 2030 until at least 2050, and committed do so later this year.</p>
