answer text

The Foreign Office provides consular assistance to British nationals overseas in a range of situations, including in Bahrain. However, the UK cannot interfere in the judicial process of another country, and must respect their systems just as we expect them to respect the UK's laws and legal process. Consular officials cannot provide legal advice, and therefore we offer British nationals a list of local lawyers who are best placed to do so should this be required. Under Bahrain law, the authorities may place a travel ban on an individual while their case is in court, although normal procedure is not to keep hold of the passport.
