<p>The renewables obligation is a market-based support mechanism which does not involve the disbursement of money. Generators receive renewable obligation certificates (ROCs) in respect of the eligible renewable electricity that they generate. The nominal value of a ROC for 2012-13 was £44.48. The actual value of a ROC to a generator will be determined by the market.</p><p>The following table shows the number and total value of ROCs issued to generators that have been redeemed against the 2012/13 obligation in the UK, England, Scotland and Wales:</p><p><table><thead><tr><td valign="top">Location<br /></td><td valign="top">ROCsredeemed<br /></td><td valign="top">Totalvalue of ROCs (£million)<br /></td></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td valign="top">UK<br /></td><td valign="top">44,773,499<br /></td><td valign="top">1,991<br /></td></tr><tr><td valign="top">England<br /></td><td valign="top">28,632,478<br /></td><td valign="top">1,273<br /></td></tr><tr><td valign="top">Scotland<br /></td><td valign="top">12,627,622<br /></td><td valign="top">562<br /></td></tr><tr><td valign="top">Wales<br /></td><td valign="top">2,205,410<br /></td><td valign="top">98<br /></td></tr></tbody></table></p> |
