The Department has no plans to introduce roadworthiness test requirements for caravans. Additionally the Department does not support the European Parliament's Transport Committee proposals to introduce such testing as the road safety benefits are considered negligible. We are yet to make a substantive assessment of the costs as the proposal is subject to significant change in scope. Moreover it is my intention that we will continue to strongly oppose such a measure. The police conduct roadside checks on caravans if they have concerns as to their roadworthiness.
