<p>The Government encourages a positive relationship between social and private landlords and their tenants. It is in landlords’ interests to have a constructive and open dialogue with their tenants, for example to ensure that properties are kept in good repair.</p><p>The Regulator of Social Housing sets standards that registered providers of social housing are required to meet. This includes expectations for registered providers of social housing to provide information and communication that is appropriate to the diverse needs of their tenants, and a clear approach to complaints that ensures complaints are resolved promptly. It is for each landlord to decide how best to comply with these requirements.</p><p>The Government does not prescribe a mandated form of engagement between private landlords and their tenants. While it is for private landlords to decide how best to engage with their tenants, the Government is clear that all tenants have a right to a decent, warm and safe place to live and to be treated with dignity and respect.</p>
