I have been asked to reply. The information requested falls within the responsibility of the UK Statistics Authority. I have asked the authority to reply.Letter from Karen Dunnell, dated July 2009:"As National Statistician, I have been asked to reply to your Parliamentary Question asking what proportion of those made redundant in each of the last 12 months were women by (a) region and (b) age. (287328)""The attached tables provide estimates for the information requested for the latest four quarters from the Labour Force Survey (LFS). Monthly data are not available.""As with any sample survey, estimates from the LFS are subject to a margin of uncertainty.""The figures in the tables are derived from the LFS microdata which are weighted using the official population estimates published in autumn 2007. They are not entirely consistent with the figures published in the monthly Labour Market Statistics Statistical Bulletin which are weighted using more up-to-date population estimates."<Table width="100%" summary="" cellspacing="3" cellpadding="3" border="0"><thead><tr><th>Proportion of people aged 16 and over made redundant¹ who were women by region, three-month periods ending June, September, December and March: 2008 to 2009, United Kingdom, not seasonally adjusted</th></tr></thead><TR><TD>Percentage</TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD>Region</TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD>North East</TD><TD>North West</TD><TD>Yorkshire and Humberside</TD><TD>East Midlands</TD><TD>West Midlands</TD><TD>Eastern</TD><TD>London</TD></TR><TR><TD>2008</TD><TD>Q2</TD><TD>40</TD><TD>37</TD><TD>42</TD><TD>46</TD><TD>50</TD><TD>39</TD><TD>33</TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD>Q3</TD><TD>47</TD><TD>35</TD><TD>36</TD><TD>39</TD><TD>46</TD><TD>43</TD><TD>63</TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD>Q4</TD><TD>25</TD><TD>35</TD><TD>28</TD><TD>32</TD><TD>27</TD><TD>26</TD><TD>55</TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD></TR><TR><TD>2009</TD><TD>Q1</TD><TD>28</TD><TD>36</TD><TD>38</TD><TD>32</TD><TD>37</TD><TD>39</TD><TD>34</TD></TR></Table><Table width="100%" summary="" cellspacing="3" cellpadding="3" border="0"><TR><TD>Percentage</TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD>Region</TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD>South East</TD><TD>South West</TD><TD>Wales</TD><TD>Scotland</TD><TD>Northern Ireland</TD><TD>Total</TD></TR><TR><TD>2008</TD><TD>Q2</TD><TD>39</TD><TD>30</TD><TD>38</TD><TD>60</TD><TD>53</TD><TD>42</TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD>Q3</TD><TD>33</TD><TD>38</TD><TD>40</TD><TD>60</TD><TD>²—</TD><TD>42</TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD>Q4</TD><TD>40</TD><TD>26</TD><TD>²—</TD><TD>24</TD><TD>²—</TD><TD>31</TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD></TR><TR><TD>2009</TD><TD>Q1</TD><TD>41</TD><TD>36</TD><TD>22</TD><TD>26</TD><TD>27</TD><TD>34</TD></TR></Table><Table width="100%" summary="" cellspacing="3" cellpadding="3" border="0"><thead><tr><th>Proportion of people aged 16 and over made redundant¹ who were women by age, three-month periods ending June, September, December and March: 2008 to 2009, United Kingdom, not seasonally adjusted</th></tr></thead><TR><TD>Percentage</TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD>Age</TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD>16-24</TD><TD>25-34</TD><TD>35-49</TD><TD>50-59</TD><TD>60 and over</TD><TD>Total</TD></TR><TR><TD>2008</TD><TD>Q2</TD><TD>50</TD><TD>37</TD><TD>43</TD><TD>41</TD><TD>30</TD><TD>42</TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD>Q3</TD><TD>32</TD><TD>29</TD><TD>52</TD><TD>49</TD><TD>44</TD><TD>42</TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD>Q4</TD><TD>23</TD><TD>26</TD><TD>39</TD><TD>32</TD><TD>34</TD><TD>31</TD></TR><TR><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD><TD></TD></TR><TR><TD>2009</TD><TD>Q1</TD><TD>32</TD><TD>34</TD><TD>35</TD><TD>43</TD><TD>25</TD><TD>34</TD></TR><tfoot><TR><td>¹ Includes those who have been made redundant in the three months prior to their LFS interview.</td></TR><TR><td>² Sample size too small for reliable estimates.</td></TR><TR><td>Note:</td></TR><TR><td>It should be noted that the above estimates exclude people in most types of communal establishment (e.g. hotels, boarding houses, hostels, mobile home sites etc.)</td></TR><TR><td>Source:</td></TR><TR><td>Labour Force Survey.</td></TR></tfoot></Table> |
