<p>The tables attached show the number of apprenticeship starts and achievements by women in each of the last six academic years.</p><p>It should be noted that older people are less inclined to undertake an apprenticeship compared to those of a younger age, as shown in the table below comparing the 45-59 age group to the 60+ age group. Since 2013/14 the number of apprenticeship starts has been increasing year on year for both of these age groups.</p><table><tbody><tr><td><p><strong>Age group</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2011/12</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2012/13</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2013/14</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2014/15</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2015/16</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>(provisional)</strong> <strong>2016/17</strong></p></td></tr><tr><td><p>45-59</p></td><td><p>62,200</p></td><td><p>61,060</p></td><td><p>41,850</p></td><td><p>55,730</p></td><td><p>57,780</p></td><td><p>58,110</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>60+</p></td><td><p>3,680</p></td><td><p>3,260</p></td><td><p>2,480</p></td><td><p>3,410</p></td><td><p>3,560</p></td><td><p>3,680</p></td></tr></tbody></table><p> </p><p> </p><p>In addition, overall female apprenticeship starts are greater than those for males as shown in the table below.</p><table><tbody><tr><td><p><strong>Gender</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2011/12</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2012/13</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2013/14</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2014/15</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2015/16</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>(provisional)</strong> <strong>2016/17</strong></p></td></tr><tr><td><p>Female</p></td><td><p>276,220</p></td><td><p>279,000</p></td><td><p>232,940</p></td><td><p>264,750</p></td><td><p>268,730</p></td><td><p>262,820</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>Male</p></td><td><p>244,360</p></td><td><p>231,210</p></td><td><p>207,480</p></td><td><p>235,140</p></td><td><p>240,630</p></td><td><p>228,520</p></td></tr></tbody></table><p> </p><p>Note: The Starts and Achievements statistics should not be used to measure percentage progress within a year.
