<p>The Public Health England (PHE) position statement outlines the basis of the conclusion that well run and regulated municipal waste incinerators (MWIs) are not a significant risk to public health.</p><p> </p><p>The position statement considered evidence of impacts on health of different waste disposal methods; the evidence on the health effects of pollutants that may be emitted from MWIs, such as particles, carcinogens and dioxins, and their contribution to local concentrations; and the evidence from the United Kingdom Committee on Carcinogenicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environment on epidemiological studies on MWIs and cancer.</p><p> </p><p>PHE’s position statement is available to view at the following link:</p><p> </p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/municipal-waste-incinerator-emissions-to-air-impact-on-health" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/municipal-waste-incinerator-emissions-to-air-impact-on-health</a></p>
