answer text

The Treasury has not received any representations from the Scottish Government on an independent Scotland continuing to use the Bank of England as its central bank after independence. If Scotland were to become independent, the Bank of England would be the central bank for the continuing UK. The continuing UK would have to agree to Scotland taking part in the UK's monetary arrangements as part of a currency union and it is highly unlikely that one could be agreed or made to work.
