	answer text	<p>We apply internationally-accepted human rights standards to consider whether a British national has been arbitrarily detained, and work with their local lawyer when considering if a detainee is not being treated in line with these standards. This may include if there is no legal authority to arrest or detain, if a trial does not follow internationally recognised standards for a fair trial or is unreasonably delayed compared to local cases. We consider all interventions on a case by case basis.</p>
