The Government take tobacco and alcohol smuggling very seriously. The spending review 2010 announced a £917 million reinvestment package for HMRC to reduce tax losses and bring in additional, revenues of £7 billion a year by 2015, which includes investment in combating alcohol and tobacco smuggling.
