<p>Local authorities have a responsibility to consider appropriate remediation measures, which could include signage if appropriate, where there is evidence of a potential risk to health in the environment. Local authorities in England are advised by Public Health England in relation to health risks associated with radioactive contamination and by the Environment Agency in respect of appropriate remediation measures.</p><p>Operators of all nuclear facilities in England must comply with environmental permits issued by the Environment Agency. The Environment Agency also conducts ongoing independent monitoring of the level of radioactivity in the environment and publishes results annually. There is no indication from this programme of a potential health risk in relation to the nuclear facilities at Hinkley Point.</p>
