<p>The Treasury has had no discussions with Ministers in the Scottish Government on the possible role of the Bank of England in respect of financial institutions based in Scotland after 2016.</p><p>If Scotland were to become independent, the FSCS would no longer cover financial firms based in Scotland. Under EU law an independent Scotland would be required to have its own separate deposit guarantee scheme covering firms that are authorised to accept deposits in Scotland.</p>
