answer text

The Home Office has held planning discussions with the National Police Co-ordination Centre on the impact of leaving the European Union.

It is the duty of any responsible government to prepare for all scenarios, including the unlikely event that we reach March 2019 without agreeing a deal. With that in mind, we are working closely with operational partners — including the police — on contingency planning so we can ensure the safety and security of our citizens. This work will ensure that we could put those plans into action and ensure that we would be able to transition our cooperation with European partners, and continue to work together through alternative channels, should that be required.

We are also working very closely with the police to build the evidence base on police demand, resilience and capability ahead of the next Spending Review.

The Government remains committed to ensuring that forces have the resources they need to carry out their important work.
