Where, due to their nature, the properties of products are subject to product specific regulations, those products are subject to the same regulations irrespective of the means by which they are marketed. Similarly, consumers enjoy the same basic rights irrespective of how goods are marketed, for example under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.However, the Cancellation of Contracts made in a Consumer's Home or Place of Work etc Regulations 2008 and the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 provide extra protection in relation to the supply of goods and services marketed by direct means. These cover, among other things, doorstep selling, sales over the internet, or sales over the telephone. These regulations are enforced by local authority trading standards officers and the Office of Fair Trading. |
