Ann Clwyd: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many companies were involved in defence industry promotional events onboard Her Majesty's ships engaged in Ocean Wave; what was the cost to his Department of defence industry promotional events stagedduring Ocean Wave; and what contributions towards these costs were provided by the defence companies involved. [54405]Mr. Spellar: A total of 47 companies, including divisions of companies, took part in promotional events on board a variety of shipsand submarines. The majority of this activity was int he form of eight single day "Defence Industry Days", where the costs of theevent were met by a flat rate contribution of £588, including VAT, per company per event. An average of twelve companies attendedeach of the eight days generating a total of £57,624. In addition some companies made use of other ship visits on an individualbasis; there were no additional costs to the MOD as a result of these activities.
