Provisional figures for 2010 show that Trinidad and Tobago was the richest country in receipt of UK Official Development Assistance (ODA) in terms of gross national income per capita (GNI per capita). According to World Bank figures, in 2009 GNI per capita in Trinidad and Tobago was US$16,700. Provisional figures show that £30,000 of UK ODA was provided to Trinidad and Tobago in 2010. This relates to a legacy commitment made by the British Government in 1970, that it would assume responsibility from overseas governments for the payment of pensions due to expatriate colonial civil servants who had been appointed by or on behalf of the Secretary of State of the Colonies. A proportion of these pension payments are classified as ODA in line with the internationally agreed definition of the Development Assistance Committee of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Final 2010 ODA figures will be published in the Department for International Development (DFID) publication Statistics on International Development (SID) later this year. Previous copies of this publication are available in the House Library or online at"www.dfid.gov.uk"
