The UK has regulated oil, gas, and coal drilling, onshore and offshore, for many years and has regulations in place to ensure on-site safety, prevent environmental contamination and minimise emissions.</p><p> </p><p>As well as obtaining access agreements with landowners and planning permissions, operators require environmental permits from the relevant environmental regulator, scrutiny by the relevant health and safety regulator, and consent from the North Sea Transition Authority or Coal Authority for drilling under the provisions of their licence.</p> |
