	answer text	<p>The Department has not issued guidance on the distance that offshore wind farms should be placed from the coast.</p><p>Issues relevant to the siting of offshore wind farms in English and Welsh waters are considered in the Overarching National Policy Statement for Energy (EN-1) and the National Policy Statement for Renewable Energy Infrastructure (EN-3), which were designated under the Planning Act 2008 in July 2011. EN-1 and EN-3 set the policy context for the development of nationally significant energy infrastructure, including offshore wind farms of greater than 100 MW capacity. Relevant issues will be considered as part of the application process for any offshore wind farm projects that come forward.</p>
