	answer text	<p>Aviation was included in the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) from 1 January 2012. Verified emissions data for 2012, released by the European Commission in April 2013<Sup>1</Sup>, showedthat aircraft operators emitted 54.9 million tonnes of CO<Sub>2</Sub>equivalent (MtCO<Sub>2e</Sub>) for the whole of the EU, including 15.8MtCO<Sub>2e</Sub> for operators regulated by the UK.
